“Les Miserables” Radio Drama, by Focus on the Family
With the opening of the movie, Les Mis, there is a renewed interest in other versions of the timeless tale. And Focus on the Family Radio Drama is a great product. The 3 cd set has a full cast, cinema sound and original musical score. This is not just an audio book! It is a radio drama.
In this age of TV, DVD, TiVo, Netflix, etc. the radio has become a long-lost friend. I remember my dad talking about the family gathering around the radio in the evening to hear their favorite show. It all came alive with the voices and sound effects. And this radio drama is produced in the same fashion.
Since I was not familiar with the story line, the first several minutes were difficult to follow, but as the story unfolded, it was quite gripping. And the sound effects and characters were so well performed, it was easy to form the word pictures in my mind.
I suggest that you consider a radio drama for your next family road trip, and Les Miserables would be a great choice. I have been listening to the story while quilting my latest project.
Disclaimer: I was provided with a copy of the cd set by Tyndale Publishers. All opinions expressed are my own.

How young a child would you say this is good for (depending on personality of course
)? How would you rate the scariness, intensity, themes? Thanks for any help you can give!
Focus on the family recommends ages 12+. I think it is probably ok for younger children (8+) although they might not understand all parts of the plot, or not be able to follow the characters. For younger children I would recommend the Chronicles of Narnia series.
Thank you so much!!! We have the Chronicles of Narnia radio theater by Focus and LOVE it!!
