First fire of the season

We heat our house with a wood stove.  It is wonderful!  The house is covy and warm all winter.  We cut the wood from our back pasture all year long, drag it up to the house where Tim and Aaron cut it into 24″ pieces.  One weekend we rent a gas powered log splitter and split, and then stack all the wood.  Then we are ready.

The temps have been down for the last week or so, but have always warmed in the afternoon, so we have not lit the fire yet.  When I got up at 5:30 this morning and the temp inside the house was 65, I decided it was time.  Because Aaron had brought several loads of wood to the front porch 2 weeks ago, it was pretty easy.  In the last 30 minutes the temp inside the house has risen to 72.

Now we just have to get into the mode of taking care of the fire during the day and before we leave the house.

Happy November!
