Happy Thanksgiving! This year, as every year, I have so much to be thankful for! I am surrounded by a loving family and friends. We are so blessed.
This is the first year that not all the kids have been home for Thanksgiving. Bethany is studying in Canada this semester, and aside from the distance and cost of travel, it is not a holiday in Canada. She did call this morning while on a bus ride for a field trip. As Hannah said, this is the first year not all the chicks are in the nest.
We have been preparing for our big Thankgiving meal for several days. Tim has quite an elaborte menu planned. The biggest problem is locating all the exotic ingredients in our small town. And if I did locate them, then while checking out, the cashier did not know what it was. Anyway, we will have 2 other families joining us for the meal.
In early morning we joined about 20 other people from the community to serve and deliver meals to hungry in Maury County. We delivered 220 portions of stuffing (or dressing if you are from the south) yesterday afternoon. When we got there the afternoon kitchen crew had not shown up, so we stayed to help. Tim deboned at least 10 turkeys. I got the complicated jobs of counting cans of green beans, shopping for 320 rolls, and storing food in the refgerator. Today, we served the meals into hinged trays which were delivered to hungry in our County. I am so blessed!
We served about 800 meals. On the menu:
- green beans
- sweet potatoes
- cranberry sauce
