Volunteering #2

4-H clover

Last night was the Maury County 4-H Public Speaking and Bread Baking contest.  Hundreds of 4-H members from across the county participated.  It was just incredible!  The local Kiwanis Club sponsors our 4-H program and provided the judges for both contests.  These dedicated folks came out on a cold Februray evening, after work, to judge the speeches or breads. The judges for the 4th grade speakers listed to 60 speakers! And the group donated money for the prizes for all participants.

At the end of the evening the only ones who went home with a prize were the kids, the Kiwanas club members volunteered their time.

I appreciate people who invest in the lives of others.  Many people are paid:  teachers, pastors, etc, but there are so many others who just give out of the kindness of their heart.  My kids have benefitted from many of these volunteers:  4-H leaders, Sunday School teachers, farm friends and neighbors.  Their lives are richer because of the time and investment of caring adults.

The next time someone asks for your help, seriously consider if there is time in your schedule to help. You may never know how you are impacting the lives of others with the gift of time.
