Gingerbread recipe

Now that the drastic heat of summer is gone I am in the mood to spend time in the kitchen baking again.  Yesterday I made banana bread to use up those pitiful bananas that had survived the week without being eaten.  Tonight I made gingerbread. Here is the recipe or you can get it from the Betty Crocker Cookbook.

Gingerbread:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t ground ginger
  • 1 t ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 t salt
  • 1 egg
  1. Heat over to 325 degrees.  Grease bottom and sides of 9″x9″ pan.
  2. In large bowl combine all ingredients, mixing on low for 30 seconds, then on medium for 3 minutes. Pour into pan
  3. Bake 50-55 minutes.  Serve warm with whipped sweetened cream or lemon sauce.

What are you baking this week?
