“The Book of Man” by William J. Bennett- book review

The Book of Man- Readings on the Path to Manhood by William J Bennett

This large (575 page) book is the newest in the motivational books by William J Bennett, and this time is directed toward men.  In the introduction he states that boys become men and this book is designed to help them on that journey.  The book is divided into several chapters that cover all aspects of a man’s life from work to play, war to government.  Bennett has again done an outstanding job in collecting stories, quotes, poems, and articles that exemplify great men.

The book is easy to read and is quite a page turner.  The stories and articles are from some very well known men- past presidents and politicians as well as rather anonymous men who are all inspiring in their character and life stories.

The Book of Man is quite attractive and definitely of gift giving quality.  The spine is cloth bound and the pages have an uneven or slightly ripped appearance that add to the quality of the book.  This volume would make a great graduation gift for a young man!  I plan to have my high school age son read at least some of the stories.  Would be a great home school supplement especially for character study.
