We are all trying to start the new year well, so here are a couple of tips that should be easy to include in your daily routine to save money.
Let’s talk about trash. None of us enjoy emptying the trash cans, and then to think we have to pay someone to come to our house and drive it away. But wait, do we? In our area we do not. In every county there are Convenience Centers where consumers can dump their trash for free. They have recycle containers too. This is especially easy for us because we have a pick up truck and can load all 5 trash cans into the back, drive a few miles and empty. If I did not have a pick up I would put the trash bags in the trunck of the car. To have trash picked up costs $ 20/month. By hauling our own trash we save $240/year. The Convenience center is on the way to town, so we are not going out of our way to do this chore.
Another idea related to trash is Coke caps. While we do not buy soft drinks on a regular basis, I do collect Coke caps/ codes from the trash. If you are not familiar with the Coke rewards program, there are unique codes in each Coke product that when entered on-line equal points that can be redeemed for prizes. Each 20 oz coke is 3 points, so you have to collect a lot to get anything, but it is fun to slowly collect and then get something fun for you or to give as a gift.
Your turn: share a frugal tip.
