“The Lifestyle of a Prophet” by James W. Goll, book review, A 21 day journey to embracing your calling.
Growing up in a Christian home I am quite familiar with the term prophet, and can even name a fair amount from the Old Testament: Daniel, Nathan, Joel, etc. But I can not name any modern day prophets nor do I consider myself a prophet. The author, in this 21 day guide, leads the reader through a journey into the heart of prophetic calling.
The book is divided into 3 sections, each with 7 readings (which would each be 1 week long if you read every day). The sections are titled: Lifestyle of Intimacy, Lifestyle of Wisdom, and Lifestyle of Revelation. Each daily reading in several pages long and includes quotes from famous scholars, Biblical passages and illustrations. In addition, the author includes a prayer and “Embracing your calling” discussion or reflection questions.
I found this book to be somewhat academic nature, and would be good for a small group Bible Study or Sunday School class. While the nature of the book is personal it would be very interesting to read and study with a group of believers or like minded Believers. I do not think this would be very effective to read / study with non believers, as there is to much included that assumes a personal relationship with Christ prior to beginning journey. Overall, the book was easy to read and understand.
