“The World of Jesus” by Dr. William H. Marty, book review

“The World of Jesus” Making Sense of the People and Places of Jesus’ Day, by Dr. William H. Marty, book review

Dr. William Marty is a professor at Moody Bible Institute, and while this book reads somewhat like a text book, it is much easier to read. Dr. Marty explains in some detail about the history, political figures and customs from the time that Jesus lived. This book could be used for a college class, but would be very helpful and useful for a Sunday School or small group study of Bible history.

While many of us read and study the Bible, as we get farther from the time that Jesus lived, we lose many of the significant issues and customs that give depth and meaning to the stories in the Bible. This book gives many details and insight that most of us are unfamiliar with, and after understanding these details, the Bible stories become much more clear and the lessons that are taught in the Bible. This book is a little to deep to read cover to cover, as it just has too much information to quickly absorb, it is a good book to use in studying the Bible or as a resource to prepare Bible lessons.
