“Praire Song” by Mona Hodgson, book review

“Praire Song” Homes Seeking Home series by Mona Hodgson

The War between the states has ended, but the reality of those soldiers not coming home is still raw for many including Anna. When her family received news that her brother was not coming home, her whole life changed. Her mother became despondent and Anna had to take over the care and feeding of the family. And that was over 2 years ago. Now she is ready to start a new and they are on the trail to California. Maybe there her mother will be strong enough to stop drinking. Maybe her grandfather will find a new passion for life. And maybe she will find love.

The trail is difficult and there are many rough spots on the way, but the Boones Lick Road Company is well managed and the trail hands are very experienced and helpful. Anna sees no other way out, even though it means leaving all she knows behind.

I enjoyed this story. It was very well devolped with a lot of details of the daily trail adventures and trials. The Christian example of several characters is wonderful and the Bible verses are well placed. I will enjoy reading the next in the series.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reading copy of this book from the publisher, Random House. All opinions expressed are my own.
