“City on Fire” A novel of Pompeii, by Tracy L Higley, book review
Ancient history is something we all studied in high school, and most of us promptly forgot most of it. But this author did not. She gives us so much detail into the history of Rome and its people. So much so, that I actually did not enjoy this book much. The vivid descriptions of the destruction of the city and its inhabitants, was just too graphic for me.
The story line itself is quite fascinating and shows what life was like during this time in history, when human life was not valued, and especially the lives of women. The attention to detail of history and the mythological interests of the day are very good, and it shows how difficult it was to be a Christian during that time.
This book is good for folks interested in this historical period, and the roles that Christians played.
