“Super Stitches Sewing” by Nicole Vasbinder, book review

“Super Stitches Sewing” A complete Guide to Machine-sewing and Hand-stitching techniques, by Nicole Vasbinder

Like the author, I have been sewing over 30 years and while I think a I know how to sew, there is so much I do not. This book shows each of the most popular hand and machine stitches, their uses, directions to use them and machine settings. It has 50 machine stitches and 20 hand stitches! Each stitch is illustrated well! And the directions are quite detailed, many with step-by-step instructions to complete the project using the specific stitch. The book progresses from the very basic to the most complex, but the illustrations make all of the stitches seem easy and doable.

While most of the stitches are classic, the author gives some new ways to incorporate them in sewing and crafting projects. The book concludes with sections on needles, sewing machine feet, thread and machines. This guide is a great companion for the sewer who is experienced enough to read and follow directions. It would make a great gift for the more experienced seamstress or crafter.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book fro the publisher, Crown Publishing- Random House. All opinions expressed are my own.
