HCSB Study Bible- Book Review

During 2014 our church is reading the Bible all the way through! It is called the 2014 challenge, and it is a challenge. We were given a reading guide, which is very helpful, that breaks the readings up into daily chunks. We are reading it chronologically, so there is some skipping around, but an interesting way to read. So far, I have kept up, with just a couple of times that I had to read extra to catch up.

This Holman Christian Standard Bible has been an excellent tool for the 2014 Challenge. It of course contains the entire Bible in the Holman Christian translation. But the study features that I really like are:
-Book introductions- each book has an introduction that gives author, date and pertinent historical information.
-Greek and Hebrew word studies- these are very helpful in understanding the passages and verses. And the authors give just enough info- not to much that I feel like a failed Greek/ Hebrew class, but enough to make me understand the passage more.
-Study notes- Many essays on theological and practical issues. Plus maps and time lines aid in study and understanding.

Overall, this Bible is refreshing and helpful for reading and learning the Bible! I encourage you to try the Holman Christian version if you are wanting a new translation that is accurate and readable.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher, B & H Publishing Group. All opinions expressed are my own.
