“Stealing Jake” by Pam Hillman, book review
Livy is determined to leave her old life behind. But it keeps creeping up on her when she least expects it. She left Chicago and lives in Chestnut- a small mining town. She helps her mentor, Mrs. Brooks, who runs an orphanage. Livy nightly patrols the streets looking for the children who live in shantytown without parents or any other adults to care for them. And she knows exactly how they feel, she was once one of them.
Jake is the new deputy. He is trying to help his family make ends meet after the untimely death of his father in a mining accident. He is charged with finding who is stealing from the homes and businesses of Chestnut. Most are quick to accuse the street kids, but Livy has given him strong evidence to proceed slowly.
This is a wonderful story of love and forgiveness. I enjoyed it and hope that there will be another in a series.
